Hi all. The purpose
of this tutorial is to explain how I created ""PUFF".
http://pm-ark.deviantart.com/art/Puff-125285557
This fractal is one
of several that I have made, which are based on the Botanicals Fractals
Tutorial posted at DeviantART http://www.deviantart.com/
by mynameishalo http://mynameishalo.deviantart.com/.
This tutorial can be found here: http://mynameishalo.deviantart.com/art/Botanical-Fractals-Tutorial-102946178
I have added specific settings to show how the effect found in "PUFF" can
be achieved. I would like to thank mynameishalo
for his tutorial, which has provided me with many hours of fun and a better
understanding of Apophysis, and for allowing me use his tutorial
as the basis for this one.
--- 1 ---
This fractal is made
by using the fractal program Apophysis208_3Dhack. This program can be downloaded
here: http://sourceforge.net/project/showfiles.php?group_id=127736&package_id=247752
--- 2 ---
After downloading and
opening the program, a random image will appear. (The image will most likely
NOT look like the one shown in this example). Click on the icon for the
EDITOR (circled in red), as shown here:
--- 3 ---
By clicking that icon,
the TRANSFORM EDITOR will open. Once it is open click on the icon for NEW
BLANK FLAME (circled in red). as shown:
--- 4 ---
Next, click on the tab
entitled TRANSFORM and the button labeled POLAR (deg) (both circled in
red):
--- 5 ---
Locate the letter "O",
as seen here, and change the zero in the first window to 3:
--- 6 ---
Click two times on the
icon indicated in this image, which will duplicate triangle 1 twice. There
should now be 3 transforms (or triangles):
--- 7 ---
Click the drop down
menu arrow and select transform 2, as shown:
--- 8 ---
Locate the letter "O",
as shown here, and change the zero in the second window to 120:
--- 9 ---
Click the drop down
menu arrow and select transform 3:
--- 10 ---
Locate the letter "O"
and change the zero in the second window to 240.
The program will
automatically convert it to -120:
--- 11 ---
Click on the icon as
indicated to add a 4th transform (triangle):
--- 12 ---
On this 4th transform,
click the VARIATIONS tab:
--- 13 ---
Change the settings
for the 4th transform as follows. (Use the scroll bar to find all
of the variations that don't appear):
linear3D: 0.045
zscale:
0.3
zcone:
-1.7
curl3D:
0.07
--- 14 ---
Click the 4th transform's
VARIABLES tab and change the following settings:
curl3d_cx:
0
curl3d_cy:
0
curl3d_cz:
-0.06
--- 15 ---
Click on the TRIANGLE
tab of the 4th transform and enter these settings:
(notice that all
of these are negative numbers, except Y (1st window)
X (1st window)
-0.44 (2nd window) -0.26
Y (1st window)
0.26 (2nd window)
-0.44
--- 16 ---
Click on the TRANSFORM
tab of the 4th transform and change the WEIGHT to 0.2:
--- 17 ---
Add a FINAL TRANSFORM
(FX) by clicking the icon:
--- 18 ---
Click on the FX transform's
VARIATIONS tab and enter these settings:
linear 3D:
-0.342
eyefish:
5
rings2:
-0.2
curl3D:
0.608
--- 19 ---
Click the FX transform's
VARIABLES tab and enter these settings:
rings2_val:
1.96
curl3d_cx:
0
curl3d_cy:
0.09
curl3d_cz:
0
--- 20 ---
The TRANSFORM EDITOR
can now be closed by clicking on the the "X" in the upper right corner.
Open the ADJUST window by clicking the icon circled in red:
--- 21 ---
Change the settings
in the ADJUST window as listed below. This can best be performed by "clicking
and dragging" the mouse. (For example, to change the setting for PITCH,
left-click on the word "Pitch" Keep holding the left mouse and drag
left until -12.7 is reached)
Pitch: -12.7
Height: -3.929
Perspective:
-0.1196
--- 22 ---
To choose a gradient,
click on the GRADIENT tab and then the drop down menu. Scroll through the
gradients and select one.
--- 23 ---
To achieve a more colorful
image, click on FLAME and then either CALCULATE COLOR VALUES or RANDOMIZE
COLOR VALUES.
--- 24 ---
If the image is too
big or too small, make adjustments using SCALE, which can be found in the
ADJUST window.
--- 25 ---
Change the GAMMA and
BRIGHTNESS settings, which are found in the RENDERING tab of the ADJUST
window, as needed.
Experiment with the
settings for the 4th and FX transforms, as well as Pitch, Height, and Perspective.
Changing "Yaw" can also be useful, ...sometimes. "Bubble" is another variation
that can have dramatic effect on the image.
Also, as mynameishalo
suggests, move, change, or delete triangles 1, 2, or 3.
The other configuration
that I have used frequently following mynameishalo's
tutorial is having 7 triangles, plus FX (instead of 4+FX, as in Puff).

I hope this tutorial
has been helpful. I would love to see any images created by using it. Thank
you to all who have expressed an interest in my fractals and left me messages
and faved them.
Special thanks to
Mister X for posting the tutorial on his website and for his never-ending
support of my artistic efforts. :o) PM
MANY
thanX, PM! Az alwayz, you have come through with AWESOME information
to share with the "masses", (hee-hee!).
I'm
sure many folks will find these instructions as fascinating & educational
as I did :) Keep up the Xceptional work, pleaze. ;)

I've
had the pleasure of watching PM develop her "x"ceptional artistic talent
over the past few years, and have been fortunate
enough
to document a small portion of it. You may be interested in learning
